About the Artist

Daria Dorosh, Ph.D., is an artist, educator, activist, and researcher with SMARTlab Digital Media
Institute at the University of East London, UK. In 2007 she completed her PhD thesis, Patterning:
The Informatics of Art and Fashion
, which posits two sets of binary patterns driving fine art,
fashion, and digital culture.

Her work integrates traditional art practice with digital media and experimental
presentation. Between 1974 and 2010, she produced eighteen one-person exhibitions and has
shown at media events such as D.E.A.F. (Dutch Electronic Arts Festival) and ACM Siggraph,
and has been published in Leonardo, Journal of the International Society for the Arts,
Sciences, and Technology.

She studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology, NY, and at the Cooper Union School of Art
and Architecture, NY. She is an early feminist and in 1972 was a co- founder of A.I.R.
Gallery, NY, the first professional artist-run gallery in the United States to show the work of
women artists.

She has taught fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Technology, NY, since 1969 and
fine arts at Parsons the New School for Design, NY, from 1976-1985. Fashion is a rich
repository of social, historic, and personal information, which she integrates into her art
theory and practice.

The principals guiding her work are aesthetic fulfillment, social justice, and ecological
sustainability. She brings a synthesis of art, fashion, and theory to her work and teaching and
is exploring new ways of engaging the public in designing their own surfaces and fashions

A catalog of artwork by Daria Dorosh, Reweaving Time, with essays by art writer David Carrier
and art writer/curator Dominique Nahas is available from A.I.R. Gallery, NY, and by email request
directly from the artist.
